On September 13th, in the American calendar, the “National Peanut Day” (National Peanut Day), due to the popularity of the grain in the diet of the American population. And in Brazil it is no different: research shows that 45% of the population prefer peanuts to any other grain.
China, India and Nigeria stand out as the 3 largest producers of the legume, respectively. Currently, Brazil is the 14th largest producer of fresh peanuts in the world, having recorded production of 515 thousand tons in the 2018/2019 harvest.
The food is rich in vitamin E (antioxidant and also responsible for contributing to the preservation of the immune system); B Complex vitamins (essential to the nervous system and help in the formation of neurotransmitters such as serotonin); in addition to having Omega 3 and Omega 6 (whose combined function promotes cell renewal and prevents aging).
Although peanut oil is widely traded, imported and exported, the grain is actually not an oilseed, but rather a legume, as the grains are born in pods rich in fibrous tissue. Basically, flowers develop on the stems and turn into pods, which contain seeds of different types, textures and sizes.
