The Association of Seed Producers of Mato Grosso (Aprosmat) held the III Course on Assessment of the Physiological Quality of Cotton Seeds and Notions of Tetrazolium in Soybeans between the 11th and 13th of February. The training was taught by professors Dr. Maria Laene Carvalho (UFLA/MG) and Dr. João Almir Oliveira (UFLA/MG). The course was attended by 32 people, including technicians from Aprosmat itself and associated companies. According to the researcher, Dr. Maria Laene Carvalho, these tests help in the quality control of these seeds so that the producer receives high quality material. “The professional who takes this course is trained to carry out tretazolium analyzes in cotton and soybeans. In the case of cotton, demand is increasing in the state and analysts can easily fulfill this mission of developing these tests”, explained the doctor.
According to professor at the Federal University of Lavras, João Almir de Oliveira, the tetrazolium test, in addition to showing whether the seed is alive or dead, can evaluate the quality during the storage period, which favors management. “It can even guide which measures can help seed producers improve their quality,” said the professor.
For the technical manager of the company Sementes Tropical, Rubiana Rossi, the course was enlightening and taught by great professionals. “It is a challenge to produce quality seeds in Mato Grosso. The professors gave a good review of the problems with soybean tretazoliums and the issue of cotton seeds was also fantastic, focusing on what precautions we should take in the seeding area when scaling the tests, what are the weaknesses of each seed in relation to temperature, humidity and what to do and what not to do and finally the best way to interpret this according to the moment, whether it is at a reception, whether it is at boarding time”, he explained.
“Aprosmat’s biggest concern is the quality of the seeds. These courses that we promote are precisely for this purpose, to qualify our analysts, both those who work in the Aprosmat laboratories, and the seed producers who work in the farm laboratories”, highlighted the executive director of Aprosmat, Andreia Bernabé.
