The corn harvest of the second 2020/21 harvest in the central/southern regions reached 90.8% of the area forecast until August 27th, according to DATAGRO Grãos. The increase was 9.1% in relation to the data collected a week earlier, according to the most recent survey by the Consulting's chief analyst, Flávio Roberto de França Júnior.

In comparison with the same date last year, highlights DATAGRO Grãos, the pace of work is 3.8% ahead of schedule: “However, in relation to the average of the last five seasons, there is a delay of 1.6% in the flow of grain removal of crops.”

The Consultancy points out, with regard to the states, that the work has already been completed in Mato Grosso. The harvest percentages for the others are: Goiás/DF (94%), Minas Gerais (93%), Paraná (83%), Mato Grosso do Sul (79%) and São Paulo (70%).

“This cycle will be marked by losses in production, due to bad weather, drought and more recently frosts, as well as the occurrence of pests, mainly the leafhopper, which severely punished, especially the South region”, highlights França Júnior.

WHAT'S NEXT

AgResource Brasil Consulting points out that Brazilian rural producers are preparing for the start of planting the summer harvest. “According to the latest drought survey, the soil moisture index was considered insufficient in a large part of the country. However, the recent rains in southern Brazil should encourage some farmers to plant summer corn areas”, highlight the analysts.

“In Mato Grosso, the North American climate model is indicating light rain in parts of the Center/West and Center/South from the second half of next week. Despite not being large volumes, rainfall already helps to raise the water level in the ground. Our perspective is that September will still be a month of rain consolidation”, concludes AgResource Brasil.
