Famasul (Federation of Agriculture and Livestock of Mato Grosso do Sul) published its Weekly Rural House Bulletin following the monitoring of the harvest and the commercialization of corn production in the state.
According to the survey, the projection of planted area for corn 2nd harvest 2020/2021 in Mato Grosso do Sul remains 2.003 million hectares, with an increase of 5.7% when compared to the area of the 2019/2020 harvest, which was 1.895 million hectares.

Productivity was reduced again, this time to 52.3 bags per hectare, a level 40.8% lower than that of the last harvest, after starting at a level of 75 bags. As a result, final production also drops to 6.285 million tons, compared to the initial projection of 9.013 million.
“The occurrence of climatic adversities in the main producing regions of the state, in particular the reduced volume of rainfall, directly affected the phenological development and grain production of corn, leading the majority of crops to be classified as “regular and poor”. In the field, crops were observed with ears with poor formation, plants that did not develop, irregular stands, among other problems that directly affected the productive potential of the crop”, explains Famasul.
Given this scenario, only 1% of the crops were evaluated in good condition, 36% were regular and the other 63% were evaluated as poor.
The report explains that for a crop to be classified as “bad”, it must present several negative criteria, such as high pest infestation (weeds, pests and diseases) or stand failures, defoliation, curling of leaves, early yellowing of plants, among others. defects that cause high loss of productive potential. In a “regular” classification, there are plants that present little damage caused by pests, reasonable stand and small yellowing of the developing plants. A crop is classified as “good” when it does not present any of the previous characteristics, having lush plants that guarantee good productivity.
Looking at the harvest, the report points out that Mato Grosso do Sul has so far harvested only 4.1% of the total sown until last Friday (23).
“The corn harvesting operation began last week in specific areas of the state. The harvest continues with a delay of 3 weeks, when compared to the last harvest”, says the publication.
Meanwhile, the price of a bag of corn in Mato Grosso do Sul remained stable between July 19 and 26, 2021. The cereal ended the period trading at R$ 88.13. In the month of July as a whole, there was an increase in value of 4.44% in the cereal bag.
“This behavior demonstrates that the condition of lower production continues to support prices”, points out the entity.
