The global giant Coca-Cola is keeping an eye on the citrus production potential of Northern Argentina, especially due to the capacity of the province of Tucumán and the new government's reforms, which have facilitated exports. As a result, the company's global CEO, Muhtar Kent, announced investments of US$ 1 billion in a juice factory in the region.
“About 30 years ago, no one knew that Tucumán produced lemons. Today, this province is already responsible for 80% of the world's industrialized production of lemons and still has a lot to grow,” stated the executive. He was present at the Argentine Investment and Business Forum – called “Mini Davos” – a big bet by President Maurício Macri to attract private investment to the neighboring country.
The Coca CEO also revealed that he was in a large meeting with employees and gave important praise to the recent changes in Argentina. “I told my employees that there has never been a better time to be Argentine. I've known Macri since he was mayor of Buenos Aires. We need more people like him in the world,” said Kent, who directly employs more than 15,000 people in the country.
The executive also revealed that the company is seeking actions to reduce the impact of water use in its factories: “In 2020 we seek neutrality, which is, in other words, for every liter of water we use, we will be returning a liter of clean water ”. Coca-Cola consumes 400 thousand liters of water annually.
