Brazilian agribusiness exports reached US$ 77.9 billion from January to September this year, an increase of 7.5% compared to the same period last year. Imports totaled US$ 9.2 billion. In this way, agribusiness achieved a record surplus of US$ 68.7 billion for the nine-month period, according to the Brazilian Agriculture and Livestock Confederation (CNA), which compiled trade balance data from the Ministry of Economy.
In volume, the country shipped 172 million tons, an increase of 14.8% compared to the first nine months of 2019. The main highlights in the export list were: soybeans (US$ 27.2 billion), fresh beef (US$ 5.4 billion), raw cane sugar (US$ 5 billion), cellulose (US$ 4.5 billion) and soybean meal (US$ 4.5 billion). These product items represented 59.8% of shipments of Brazilian agricultural products in 2020.

China remains the main destination for Brazilian sales, with 36.8% of the total (revenue of US$ 28.7 billion). Next come the European Union (16.2% of exports and revenue US$ 12.6 billion), the United States (6.3% and US$ 4.9 billion in value), Japan (2.3% and US$ 1.8 billion) and Korea of the South (2.1% and US$ 1.6 billion).
In monthly performance, Brazilian agribusiness exported US$ 8.6 billion in September, an increase of 4.8% compared to September 2019, generating a trade balance of US$ 7.5 billion. The quantity shipped was 20.6 million tons, an increase of 12.7% compared to the same month last year.
Soybeans (US$ 1.6 billion), corn (US$ 1.1 billion), raw cane sugar (US$ 888.4 million), fresh beef (US$ 583.1 million) and soybean meal (US$ 549.9 million) were the most exported products, accounting for 55.4% of total shipments. China imported the most from Brazil, with 27.5% of the total in September.
