With the soil at ideal humidity for sowing, corn planting continues in Rio Grande do Sul. Of the total area planned to be implemented in the State (731.5 thousand ha), it is estimated that 34% have already been implemented, against an average of 20% for the period. According to the Emater/RS-Ascar Economic Information, all corn crops are in the germination and vegetative development phases. In certain areas, some early seedlings already show symptoms of pest attack, even after applying insecticide to the seeds.
In soybeans, producers continue with crop planning and emphasize the acquisition of inputs. Chemical management of the first areas to be cultivated at the beginning of October, initiating reviews and intensifying the regulation of planters.
The weather conditions at the moment also benefit rice farmers, who prepare the soil for planting and clean the irrigation and drainage channels, improving access to crops, including ready-made mud, enabling planting at the correct/ideal sowing time or even your anticipation.
WINTER CROPS
In wheat, the crop progresses to the reproductive stage, between flowering and grain filling. Despite the good appearance of the crops, the ears appear small, with a low number of spikelets and, in some cases, with malformed grains. Producers carry out the second application of fungicide, with the need for another application of insecticide due to the increased incidence of aphids.
In the Missões region, there is a record of loss occurrences (COPs), already totaling more than 220 of them. According to technicians from this region, the tendency, as the wheat harvest season approaches, is for the number of COPs to increase, covering practically all municipalities in the region.
The stages of canola crops in the State are distributed in the following proportion: 20% in flowering, 67% in grain filling, 10% in maturation and 4% harvested. The general appearance of the crops is considered bad in most cases, due to the low population of cultivated plants and failures in grain filling (flat grain). Many crops present two distinct stages of development (flowering and grain filling) on the same plot, highlighting possible crop losses.
The general appearance of white oat crops, with small plants, is also considered bad, due to the long period with low soil moisture at the end of June and throughout the month of July. The expected productivity could be reduced by up to 50% compared to the initial one, but this measure still depends on the final assessment of the municipal teams. There is a request from Proagro for some crops due to poor production expectations.
FRUITS AND VEGETABLES
Citrus? In Vale do Caí, the good weather in recent weeks has contributed to the harvest of citrus fruits from late cultivars, already in the final phase, at the same time that the fruits from the new harvest of orange and bergamot trees are beginning to form.
Among the orange trees, the last fruits of the Umbigo Monte Parnaso cultivar are being harvested, and the average price received by citrus growers for a 25 kilo box is R$ 15.00. At the same time, in the 2016 harvest, citrus growers received R$ 26.00 for the same product. In this 2017 harvest, the prices received for all navel orange cultivars were very low, strongly discouraging this cultivation. Many citrus growers are already proposing to eradicate orchards of this fruit.
Unlike navel oranges, Valencia, which are used to make juice, both in industry and in homes, bars and restaurants, have had a higher price than the last harvest; the citrus grower is receiving an average of R$ 14.00/cx. of 25 kilos. For Valencia marketed to the juice industries, citrus growers are receiving an average of R$ 420.00/ton.
Onion – The absence of precipitation in the Serrana region brings benefits and at the same time restrictions to the development of culture. Positively, dryness provides adequate conditions for maintaining crop health, as a large majority of plant diseases are caused by high humidity. On the other hand, water deficiency facilitates the emergence of pest outbreaks, especially thrips, the main headache for cebigrowers.
CREATIONS
In beef cattle farming, the hot weather in recent days favored the development of the native field, allowing the animals to gain some weight. However, rainfall has remained below the normal rate for the month, worrying livestock farmers who have sandier soils.
Likewise, cultivated winter pastures, which have good mass, guarantee the nutritional conditions of the animals. In general, the herd has good body condition, as the winter had higher temperatures, resulting in fewer losses in the herd. The predominant phases are pregnancy and calving, increasing care for pregnant cows.
Due to higher temperatures, problems with verminosis and ectoparasites are emerging, and preventive planning for ticks is recommended. Due to the heat, cases of bugs in the navels of newborn calves increase.
