China increased imports of Brazilian beef by 126% in January, according to information released by the Brazilian Association of Meat Exporting Industries (Abiec). The data indicated that Brazilian beef exports rose 9.8% in January compared to the same month last year.
“Brazil exported a total of 135.4 thousand tons of the product last month, of which 53.2 thousand tons were shipped to China. Brazil's revenue from total beef exports last month totaled US$ 633.25 million, an increase of 37.9% compared to the same month of the previous year”, explains the CarneTec Brasil specialized portal.
Furthermore, the data also indicated that shipments to China alone totaled US$ 322.8 million in revenue, an increase of 200% year on year. “The growth in the flow of Brazilian proteins to China has been boosted since last year by cases of African swine fever that affect the country and reduce local pork production”, adds the portal.
The president of Abiec, Antônio Jorge Camardelli, said in a statement that the result of January's exports is positive and “is in line with our growth estimates for this year”. “The association estimated in December that beef exports are expected to rise by 13% in volume in 2020, reaching 2.07 million tonnes.
