China informed, through the General Administration of Customs and the country's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, that it has lifted restrictions on imports of poultry and poultry products from the United States.
The measure begins immediately after four years of ban, starting in 2015 due to the outbreak of bird flu in the United States. After the decision, North American authorities estimate an increase of US$ 1 billion in exports.
“China is an important export market for America's poultry farmers, and we estimate that they will now be able to export more than $1 billion worth of poultry and poultry products each year to China,” said U.S. Trade Representative, Robert Lighthizer, in a statement.
In a briefing this Thursday (14), Chinese Ministry of Commerce spokesman Gao Feng said that his country is in deep discussions with the United States for the first phase of the trade agreement and that canceling tariffs would be an important condition for the pact.
