China opened the market for Brazilian dairy products. The Chinese authorized 24 Brazilian establishments to export products such as powdered milk and cheese. The announcement was made by Minister Tereza Cristina (Agriculture, Livestock and Supply) this Tuesday (23).
The minister highlighted that opening the market will boost the milk production chain. “I think this is exceptional news for the dairy sector, which is going through a very difficult, hopeless time. And this brings hope to the dairy industry”, he celebrated.
Currently, there are 1.2 million small dairy producers in Brazil. “I was very happy and I would like to pass on this good news to Brazilian producers, who are going through a difficult time, they have just lost R$ 0.30 in a liter of milk, and now they will be able to have the perspective. Of course, it’s not for tomorrow, but it’s an excellent opening for Brazil.”
Tereza Cristina highlighted that “Brazil has always wanted to have access to the Chinese market, to be able to take products from Brazil, improving prices for Brazilian producers”.
Certification had been agreed with China since 2007, but there was no Brazilian plant qualified to export. On her trip to the country in May, the subject was one of the minister's priorities. “Brazil is a large producer and China is the largest importer in the world. Brazil produces 600 million tons of milk, but China imports 800 million tons, 200 million tons more than we produce”.
Previously, in April this year, the ministry had sent the list of 24 establishments to the Asian country. Among the products that may be exported are non-fluid products, such as powdered milk, cheese and condensed milk. “Brazilian cheeses can be exported and, with this, regulate the Brazilian milk market”, celebrated Tereza Cristina.
