Chicken meat: volume exported in the year increases by almost 10%

Last June, fresh chicken meat shipments increased by less than 2% compared to the previous month. Effect only of the shorter month (19 working days, compared to 22 working days in May/19), since, based on the daily average, exports for the month went from 15,974 tons to 18,829 tons, a result that meant a monthly increase of, practically, 18% and the second best result in the last three years – behind only the 19,923 tons in July 2018 (*).

Ultimately, shipments in the period totaled 357,745 tons which, added to shipments from previous months, resulted in a semi-annual volume of close to 1.884 million tons, practically 10% more than in the same six months of 2018.

It is true that, in June, the average price achieved by the product fell again and fell by more than 4% compared to the previous month. But this did not influence the increase from previous months and, therefore, the semester ended with an average price of almost US$1,615.00/tonne, a value 5.7% higher than that reached in the first half of last year.

As a final result, foreign exchange revenue for the first six months of 2019 was not far from US$3.050 billion, a result that means an increase of more than 16% over the same previous period.

(*) The 19,923 daily tons in July 2018 were recorded at a time of change in the accounting system for Brazilian exports. They were increased because, apparently, they received unaccounted remains from the previous month (in June, only 10.5 thousand tons per day, almost half of what would be recorded in the following month). This considered, it is likely that last June's daily shipments corresponded to the record of the last 36 months.

But, at this stage, the best is reserved for this July. Which, together with October, is the – commercially speaking – longest month of the year, with 23 working days. If June's daily average is maintained, this month's shipments could exceed 430 thousand tons. Only fresh chicken meat.
