Cargill signed this Thursday, November 10th, the contract for the acquisition of SGS Microingredients (SGS Agricultura e Industria Ltda). The purchase is part of the company's growth strategy in Paraná. According to Paulo Hoffmann, general manager of Cargill Industrial Specialties in Brazil, the company's objective is to increase the current production capacity in the line of industrial products, as well as acquiring capabilities that do not exist in Cargill's current assets. “The plant brings complementary capabilities and processes that add value to the existing Industrial Specialties chain, better meeting the market’s needs”, he explains.
Cargill's results in this sector in recent years have been significant and above the market average. “Currently, the company has an important position within the industrial oils market, presenting innovative solutions, with high added value and good customer perception. Our goal is to be a leader in the supply of biosolutions and bioproducts to replace petroleum-derived oils”, highlights Hoffmann.
SGS Agricultura, headquartered in Ponta Grossa (PR), processes and produces oleochemicals and emulsifiers for the food, animal nutrition and industrial segments in the domestic market and for export. With a production capacity of around 56 thousand tons/year, the factory has 80 employees who will be hired by Cargill.
Cargill's industrial oils business also operates in Mairinque, where the plant is at production limits. The factory with approximately 90 employees will not be impacted by business growth, as Cargill has invested in this area to increase production capacity and expand its global portfolio. The completion of the transaction depends on regulatory approvals from the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE).
