Champion in productivity reaches 132 sc/ha in wheat

Have you ever thought about harvesting 132 bags of wheat per hectare? The productivity champion elected by the Cultivating Wheat Challenge showed that it is possible. The record occurred in the wheat harvest in 2016 on the property of the Koenig brothers, Evandro and Renato, in the municipality of Espumoso/RS. In the audited area, agronomists managed to reach 132 sc/ha, practically tripling productivity compared to the national average, which was 53 sc/ha. Last week, Evandro Koenig shared the secrets of his achievement with other producers in an action promoted by Basf in partnership with Biotrigo.

According to Evandro, at the Koenig Agricultural property, wheat has always been a winter crop option. The passion for wheat has passed from father to son since the 1950s. Year after year, thanks to technology, productivity has been increasing – except when the weather did not help – in the event of late frosts and/or excessive rain at the end of the year. culture cycle. “We have not stopped producing wheat, even after failed harvests. For us, wheat is very important within the production system, because it is essential for balancing the health of the soil, it fertilizes the system, keeps the area free from invaders, and produces straw. We don’t live off wheat alone, but the crop keeps the farm in activity, dilutes the property’s fixed costs and leads to the soybean harvest”, reports Evandro.

The formula for reaching the high production ceiling was summarized in three factors: good weather in 2016, investment in a good cultivar and management. “We chose to produce TBIO Toruk this harvest, a cultivar with very high productive potential. The chosen planting area also has a very good fertility history. We seek technical guidance and observe the plant day-to-day to carry out appropriate management, depending on the plant’s development.” In the 2016 harvest, the general average was 85 sc/ha, and production was 5,100 kg per hectare.

“Research has been providing new perspectives with the development of increasingly productive materials that meet the requirements of the milling industry”, says the farmer. And for the 2017 harvest? “Yes, I will plant wheat, I will increase the area from 200 to 350 ha, continue planting TBIO Toruk, and other materials, such as TBIO Sinuelo and TBIO Sossego, because our intention is to reach even greater levels”, he concludes.

And how was the management?

In the area sown with TBIO Toruk, the crop was implemented in a clean area, without competition from invasive plants and grasses, well dried and managed. The dose of Nitrogen was increased and its application was divided into three phases: in the double ring phase, terminal spikelet and in rubbering – focusing on specific moments where the plant required the greatest availability of N. Disease treatments became carried out 4 times, in addition to a good base fertilizer.
