The Ministry of Agriculture gave authorization for BRF (BRFS3.SA) to export from a slaughterhouse located in Mineiros, in Goiás, the world's largest chicken meat exporter said in a statement this Friday. The unit had been closed due to the Federal Police's Carne Fraca operation in March, which uncovered a corruption scheme in meat processing plants to defraud health inspections. In April, the unit was reopened for slaughter. At the time, the company reported that the unit had the capacity and authorization to slaughter 26,000 turkeys and 115,000 chickens per day.
“The expectation is that the company will receive commercial missions from outside Brazil in the coming months to conduct technical inspections that precede the plant qualification process and, consequently, the start of exports,” said BRF. The unit in Goiás currently produces more than 7 tons of food per month and employs approximately 2,000 people, BRF said.
