When participating in the opening of the 21st Brazilian Agribusiness Congress (CBA), in São Paulo, the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, Marcos Montes, highlighted this Monday (1) that Brazil, as one of the main food suppliers, stands as an important participant in ensuring global food security.
“Brazil positions itself as an important participant, but it doesn’t just depend on Brazil, we are a player in the fight against food insecurity. We are food producers, but we do not produce food from nothing, we need inputs. So, everyone has their role, Brazil can carry all of this, but we need everyone to really understand their role”, he said, highlighting that the issue of sustainability cannot be used to harm Brazilian competitiveness.
“We all want environmental preservation and sustainability, but it cannot be used by some countries to harm us.”

According to the minister, recent international conflicts have brought enormous disruption to the whole world, such as insecurity regarding the supply of fertilizers. “Fortunately in Brazil we did not have the problem that haunts us, which was the delivery of fertilizers, and today we have a regular delivery, which is still expensive, but we will reach a competitive level”, he highlighted.
The event, organized by the Brazilian Agribusiness Association (Abag), in partnership with B3, brings together sector experts to debate issues such as food safety, technology and the environment. Also participating in the opening of the Congress were the Minister of the Environment, Joaquim Leite; the president of Abag, Luiz Carlos Corrêa Carvalho; the CEO of B3, Gilson Finkelsztain; the governor of São Paulo, Rodrigo Garcia, and the Secretary of Agriculture and Supply of São Paulo, Francisco Matturro.
