The Brazilian government published normative instructions that provide legal certainty for imports of transgenic soybeans and corn from the United States, the Ministry of Agriculture told Reuters.
The normative instruction, according to the ministry's press office, recognizes the equivalence of genetically modified events between Brazil and the USA.

The standard seeks to eliminate uncertainties about imports from the USA, as the North American country has transgenic events that have not yet been approved in Brazil, according to experts.
North Americans are potential suppliers of grains to Brazil at a time when the country is facing a shortage of soybeans, mainly after strong exports and heated domestic demand.
With record prices for soybeans and corn, the Brazilian government zeroed the import tariff on these grains for countries outside Mercosur last month.
