Brazil imports more than 80% of fertilizers used in agribusiness, therefore, the federal government intends to develop a policy to expand national production of agricultural fertilizers and reduce dependence on imports of the product. An interministerial working group (GT) was established to discuss the topic.
The meeting that took place on Tuesday at Palácio do Planalto, was attended by the Minister of Agriculture, Tereza Cristina “Brazil's agricultural production is increasing year after year, but it is hugely dependent on imports of phosphorus and potassium, mainly ”, explains the minister.

The working group will have 120 days to produce a draft of the national fertilizer plan to be presented to the president of the republic. Representatives from the Ministries of Economy, Infrastructure, Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, Mines and Energy, Science, Technology, Environment, Embrapa, among others, are part of the project.
One of the initiatives under study is the release of the explosion of potassium reserves in the Amazon and mineral resources in indigenous lands.
