The Brazilian Association of Vegetable Oil Industries (Abiove) enthusiastically welcomed the completion of the concession process for the section of BR-163 that connects Sinop (MT) to Miritituba (PA). The logistics corridor is strategic for the flow of the soybean harvest produced in the Brazilian Center-West and which travels to international consumer markets from the Arco Norte port terminals.

The Via Brasil consortium, winner of the tender, will invest around R$ 2 billion in the broker and will be responsible for managing the 1,009.52 kilometers. The contributions include the implementation of additional lanes, side streets and shoulders and definitive access to the Miritituba, Santarenzinho and Itapacurá terminals, speeding up cargo transport on the Tapajós Waterway.

''The concession will result in improvements that will facilitate the flow of the main grain corridor from the Center-West to the ports of Arco Norte, guaranteeing year-round traffic, safety for transporters and reducing freight costs'', says Daniel Furlan Amaral , chief economist at Abiove.

According to the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT), the expectation is that the main improvements will be made by the consortium within five years. The concession term will be 10 years, with the possibility of being extended for another two years.

''Agribusiness expects that the schedule will be respected and that works to improve access to terminals, essential to increasing the competitiveness of Brazilian commodities, will be carried out as soon as possible'', adds Amaral.
