Biopower, a company belonging to JBS, transformed 4.5 million liters of cooking oil into biodiesel last year, an increase of 15% compared to 2022.
Biopower collected 26 million liters in 8 years, avoiding incorrect disposal and preserving 650 billion liters of water.
“We believe that it is increasingly necessary to leave behind the traditional model of extracting, producing, purchasing and disposing of the product. The reintroduction of waste as raw material in production chains generates high-value energy, according to Alexandre Pereira, commercial director.”
The Óleo Amigo program, used by Biopower to acquire used oil, currently has activities centralized in Lins (SP) and Curitiba (PR), but reaches a total of 87 municipalities in the states of São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Paraná and Santa Catarina, with the potential to promote environmental awareness for more than 10 million people people in these regions. In total, more than 550 commercial establishments have already supplied oil for the initiative.
The company carries out collections on a scheduled basis, using trucks and cars, in bars, restaurants, schools and other generating locations. Auditors monitor analyzes of the oil collected to guarantee its quality, essential for the production of biodiesel, checking acidity, impurities and humidity.
