Bayer announced the suspension of its soybean seed and biotechnology businesses in Argentina from the 2021/22 harvest. “With lower insect pressure than other regions, Argentina represented approximately 10% of the total area sown with INTACTA RR2 PRO in South America in 2020/2021,” said the multinational in a statement.

“The plan is to redirect investments in Argentina towards profitable and innovative projects, focused on promoting digital transformation and new business models, such as the Orbia digital platform, or Carbon Initiative”, explains Bayer. The company guarantees that it will seek an orderly transition to accompany its customers and partners.
“With more than 100 years of experience in the country, Bayer thanks everyone who participated and supported the soybean and biotechnology business in Argentina and reiterates its commitment to offering integral solutions to producers through its corn, crop protection and crops and digital agriculture”, they explain.
Bayer added that, although it will stop supplying soybeans in Argentina, other companies that have stocks of Intacta technology will continue to sell until they are exhausted. Juan Farinati, Head of Commercial Operations at Bayer Crop Science Cone Sul, highlighted that “Argentine agriculture is already one of the most sustainable on the planet, but there is still room for improvement. When we intensify management through sustainable agronomic practices, we increase the possibility of extracting the real value from each germplasm, producing more and more responsibly.”
