Around 70 representatives from the poultry industry in Rio Grande do Sul and the State government participated in the virtual meeting promoted by the RS Poultry Organization (OA/RS). With the aim of updating the sector's situation after more than 30 days of facing the meteorological crisis that has hit Rio Grande do Sul since the beginning of May, the online meeting took place on Friday morning (7/6). In fact, the most recent balance of poultry farming in Rio Grande do Sul records losses in excess of R$250 million, including meat birds and layers, genetic material, structure, among others.

The executive president of OA/RS, José Eduardo dos Santos, showed the sector's initiatives, which have sought to enable compatible financing lines for poultry industries of all sizes, forwarding requests to the State and federal government, the latter being through from the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES). “We are seeking guaranteed credit for industries, cooperatives and producers, in addition to monitoring the emergency actions that BNDES must implement”, says Santos. The leader highlighted the State's efforts, but highlighted the urgency of granting financing to resume activities after such significant losses. “We need this mechanism to continue our work, which places the State in a prominent position in the national and global export and producer market, moving the economy and generating jobs and income”, he explained.

The president of the OA/RS Board of Directors, Nestor Freiberger, highlighted the need for joint work. “It’s time to put differences aside and come together for a greater good, which is poultry farming in Rio Grande do Sul,” he said.

The Chief Secretary of the Civil House, Arthur Lemos, answered the sector's questions and emphasized that the State is working to obtain the best conditions for productive sectors such as poultry farming. Furthermore, Marcio Madalena, from Seapi, highlighted the crucial importance of the agro-industrial link in the sector's productive restructuring.

At the end of the meeting, Santos said that new meetings will be scheduled to align demands. Furthermore, it is intended to contextualize scenarios and seek solutions that can contribute to a more consolidated recovery of the sector.
