Confirming previous forecasts, the weekend was marked by high temperatures throughout Brazil. The arrival of spring is also being marked by very dry weather, but how long will the heat wave favor extreme temperatures?

Heat wave and risk of rain in the Central-West: Weather alert remains for large regions of Brazil

For this week, the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) maintains a red alert in some regions. This includes northern Paraná, São Paulo and areas of Minas Gerais. It also affects Mato Grosso do Sul, Mato Grosso, Goiás and Tocantins. The Climatempo portal adds that temperatures between 40°C and 43°C can still be observed in Mato Grosso, Goiás and Mato Grosso do Sul.

According to data from the Cosmo model, in all these areas, maximum temperatures could reach 40ºC on Monday and Tuesday (26). The model predicts that from Wednesday, maximum temperatures may begin to decrease. However, they should still remain above 30ºC throughout Central-North Brazil.

According to Climatempo, on Thursday and Friday, with the weakening of the high atmospheric pressure system, which caused the heat wave, some rain showers will occur again in all areas of the Central-West of the country. Isolated, short-lasting blows will help to lower the temperature and alleviate the heat. There is a risk of heavy rain showers throughout this week in the Central-West region.

New extratropical cyclone

As for the South of Brazil, the week begins with rain forecast in the three states. According to Climatempo between Tuesday and Wednesday (26), the formation of a new extratropical cyclone will favor the formation of heavy clouds in the region.

“Rio Grande do Sul ended winter and began spring under the influence of several factors, and the passage of a cold front this weekend, combined with the circulation of winds, generated even more fuel for even heavier clouds”, highlights consultancy.

Regarding volumes, the Cosmo model predicts precipitation between 40mm and 60mm in areas of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina in the next 24 hours. It also indicates that the tendency is for rain to increase in intensity in other areas of the state in the coming days, but without the strength to advance to other regions of the country.
