A Russian missile attack damaged a St. Kitts and Nevis-flagged civilian ship loaded with corn, in the Ukrainian port of Pivdennyi, on October 6, Ukraine's Restoration Ministry said on Monday.

According to a statement posted on Facebook by the ministry, the ship’s 15 crew members, citizens of Egypt and Syria, were not injured. “Fortunately, none of the 15 crew members were injured. In total, the ship was loaded with about 6,000 tons of Ukrainian corn. This is a completely civilian cargo,” the ministry said.

It was the 20th civilian ship damaged by Russian attacks, the ministry said. “This is nothing more than Russia’s attempts to influence the successful operation of the Ukrainian maritime food corridor and jeopardize global food security,” Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Kuleba said.

Moscow has repeatedly denied attacking civilian targets, but attacks on Ukrainian ports have been frequent since the start of its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Two similar incidents occurred in September. Earlier this month, a Russian missile hit the bulk carrier Aya, also flagged by Saint Kitts and Nevis, in the Black Sea. Later, another Russian missile damaged an Antiguan-flagged aircraft carrier in Odesa.
