Operators estimated that the wheat could originate in the United States, Germany and Baltic countries
Algeria's state grains agency (OAIC) bought 580,000 tonnes of wheat of optional origin in an auction that ended on Tuesday, European traders said on Wednesday.
Operators initially mentioned that the purchase would have been 400 thousand tons, but later said that OAIC purchased a larger volume. Prices were between $201 and $201.50 per ton, including cost and freight, with loading in January, they said.
According to them, wheat from Argentina had very competitive prices at the event, but the quality of the cereal may not meet Algeria's requirements.
