In its last ordinary meeting of the year, CTNBio (National Technical Biosafety Commission) approved the commercialization of genetically modified soybean MON 87708. Developed by the multinational Monsanto, it is the first technology launched in Brazil that is tolerant to the herbicide Dicamba.
The release was decided last Thursday (08.12), at a meeting held in Brasília and announced by MCTIC (Ministry of Science, Technology, Innovations and Communications). The deliberation is the result of an authorization process initiated more than two years ago: on October 24, 2014.
At the same ordinary CTNBio meeting, the commercial release of soybeans tolerant to Dicamba and Glyphosate MON 87708 x MON89788 was authorized. The decision authorizes the use of transgenics “with a view to their release into the environment, their commercial use and any other activities related to this GMO and any progenies derived from it”.
