Rising demand from Asian importers, combined with limited grain supplies on world markets, has resulted in a significant rise in grain prices. wheat Ukraine's domestic and export markets, producers reported last Wednesday.
Ukraine, recognized as one of the largest wheat producers and exporters on the global stage, has limited its wheat exports in the July 2024 to June 2025 harvest season. This measure was taken in response to high demand from international exporters.
According to Ukraine’s main agricultural producers’ union, UAC, “in the face of climate problems and declining yields in the European Union, Ukrainian wheat is becoming more competitive, especially among Asian countries.” The union also noted that prices at Ukrainian ports are approaching US$1.4T per metric ton. Moreover, there is potential for these prices to rise further, reaching up to US$1.4T per ton.
In addition, the APK-Inform analytical agency reported that last week Ukrainian wheat export prices increased by US$$3 per tonne. This resulted in an average price of US$$210 per tonne, freight paid in the Black Sea.
To ensure domestic supplies, the Ukrainian government has taken important measures. Together with agricultural associations, it decided to limit wheat exports in the 2024/25 season. The permitted volume will be 16.2 million tons. According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture, as of October 14, wheat exports already amounted to 6.89 million tons.
