The drop in projection is due to a return to average yields, after an almost perfect harvest in 2016/17. Soybean exports for the 2017/18 crop year were estimated at 64 million tonnes, as a result of strong demand from China. In the current 2016/17 harvest, Brazil exported 56 million tons in the first seven months of the harvest, a volume 19 percent higher than in the previous harvest. According to the attaché, exports could reach 65 million tons, a record.
