In September 2023, Aboissa visited the People's Republic of China for the first time.
Shandong Province, a significant partner for our peanut, was the first stop. The name Shandong, which literally means “east of the mountains,” refers to a famous province. It was the birthplace of Confucius, one of the most important philosophers in the world.
The region also has four places recognized as world heritage by UNESCO, including a part of the Great Chinese Wall. Currently, the province is known in the business world due to its high number of factories.
Melinda Rodrigues, our expert, was able to participate in the International Peanut Conference, where she presented data on the new Chinese crop, which grew in volume this year, reaching almost 18 million tons. Despite being the world's largest producer of this legume, China is also the largest importer.
Our second stop was in Shanghai, the city that represents what is most modern and cosmopolitan in China, and is also its commercial and financial center. One of the reasons for this is that it is home to the largest Chinese port and one of the largest in the world. Therefore, Shanghai literally means “over the sea”.
