To combat the irregular transit of garlic, onions, pesticides, cattle, products of animal origin and other agricultural products and inputs, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) carried out, together with state and federal agencies, a mega operation in the states of Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul.
The 35th Agro Ronda Operation of the Agricultural Defense Surveillance Program for International Borders (Vigifronteira) seized 90 tons of products of plant origin, including garlic and onions, 2.8 tons of products of animal origin, 29,530 liters of smuggled and clandestine beverages, 900 liters of pesticides, 122 units of veterinary products and 37 cattle in an irregular situation.

In total, nine infraction notices, 10 terms of seizure and 14 terms of inspection and supervision were issued, resulting in a loss to offenders of approximately R$ 6 million in fines and seizures. Four arrests were also made in the act and three were taken to the police station to investigate illicit activities related to the crime of smuggling.
The inspection action took place in the municipalities of Foz do Iguaçu, Santo Antônio do Sudoeste, Barracão, Capanema, Flor da Serra do Sul, São Borja, Porto Xavier, Horizontina, Bossoroca, Porto Vera Cruz, Dionísio Cerqueira, São Miguel do Oeste and Cacoal .
The teams were in a warehouse for smuggled onions and garlic, three rural properties, a resale of veterinary products, six establishments importing products of plant origin, three clandestine brandy factories and five commercial beverage establishments. 90 vehicles and one aircraft were also inspected.
The irregular import of products of animal and vegetable origin, in addition to being extremely unfair competition for small and medium-sized Brazilian producers, also constitutes one of the main ways of introducing and spreading pests and animal diseases in free areas, which can harm all Brazilian agribusiness.
Vigifronteira's operations are part of the Integrated Border Protection Program (PPIF). The actions are organized by Mapa in an integrated manner with federal and state agencies. Adapar, Cidasc, Seapi, Federal Revenue of Brazil, Federal Police, Federal Highway Police and the Civil and Military Police in the States of Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná and Santa Catarina participated in the 35th Operation Ronda Agro.
