The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA) confirmed a case of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE), popularly known as “mad cow”, the case occurred on a property in southeast Pará. The location was isolated and the property inspected and preventively closed until the results of the analysis of the remains are known.

Regarding exports, in compliance with the agreement between Brazil and China, MAPA suspended the export of beef to that country from today onwards. With the news, slaughterhouses suspended purchases and canceled scheduled shipments.
Therefore, the reference price for all livestock markets is February 17th, the Friday before Carnival.
Meat on the bone wholesale
Prices on the wholesale market fell. The price of married cows fell by 4.5% in a week-to-week comparison. The price of married carcasses of castrated cattle fell by 1.3%, while the price of whole cattle carcasses fell by 3.5%.
