Exports grew by 19.3% compared to the previous year, reaching US$ 335.01 billion.

Recent information shows that Brazil reached a new record of trade surplus in 2022, with an increase of 1.5% compared to the previous record of US$ 61.4 billion in 2021. According to Fábio Pizzamiglio, director of Efficienza, a company specialized in foreign trade, it is important that the new government makes careful planning to continue to be successful in foreign trade in 2023.

“With the record increase in exports and trade surplus in 2022, Brazil is in a favorable position to continue growing in foreign trade in 2023. However, it is important to consider the factors that contributed to this success, such as the appreciation of commodities , and how they might change in the future. Furthermore, it is necessary to monitor commercial relations with Brazil's main partners and how any change in these relations could affect foreign trade”, he stated.

Exports grew by 19.3% year-on-year, reaching US$ 335.01 billion, while imports increased by 24.3%, reaching US$ 272.697 billion. The agricultural sector was the one that grew the most in exports, with an increase of 36.1%, driven mainly by the increase of 31.5% in the prices of basic products due to the war in Ukraine. The manufacturing industry also saw a growth in exports, of 26.2%, thanks to an increase of 15.7% in prices and 9.8% in exported volumes.

For Fábio, it is crucial that investments in agriculture continue for the country to maintain growth in international trade. “The agribusiness and manufacturing sector saw significant growth in exports in 2022, which demonstrates the strength and importance of these sectors for the Brazilian economy. In addition to the increase in prices of basic products, there was also an increase in volumes shipped and prices and volumes exported, which contributed to the growth of these sectors”, he concludes.
