The Minister of Agriculture, Marcos Montes, highlighted, during the 9th Brazilian Fertilizer Congress, the actions and measures adopted by the federal government to guarantee the supply of the input during the conflict in Ukraine. “We faced a shock with the war in Ukraine, which put our fertilizer supply at risk, but we sought solutions and achieved our objectives, highlighted Montes, even considering that there are still difficulties to be overcome.

According to the minister, the worst moment has already passed, thanks to the government's diplomatic efforts and the collaboration of the productive sector, citing the National Association for Fertilizer Diffusion (ANDA). “At a worrying time for the world in terms of food security, in the midst of thousands of crises, Brazil proved to be important, breaking production and export records during the three years of the pandemic”, added the minister.

The minister recalled the launch of the National Fertilizer Plan in March, which aims to reduce the country's long, medium and short term dependence on fertilizer imports. Brazil purchases 80% abroad as needed.

Montes highlighted the government's work in what he calls “fertilizer diplomacy”, when government action helped not to interrupt the supply of fertilizers or, at least, reduce the impact of embargoes on Russia, one of the main suppliers of the world market. of fertilizers.

“Fertilizer is a central element in the formation of prices for agricultural commodities. Restricting access to inputs means reduced productivity, lower supply, higher inflation and lower food security,” said the minister. “If Brazil stops producing, the world will go hungry”, concludes Montes.
