“An important reason for this difference is the drop of 34% or 1,428 million tons in the 2021 harvest compared to 2020, 2,745 against 4,173 million tons. Another reason is logistical: with the soybean harvest there was a huge balance of 2020 corn sold that could not be exported between September and October 2020 and that was only possible to export in January 2021, due to the fact that soybeans are practically non-existent in January of 2021 with just 1% until the end of January. While there was no soybeans to move, corn was exported”, adds the consultancy.

Of the almost 63 thousand tons indicated in January, 72% or 45,263 thousand tons were registered in the first fortnight and 17,662 thousand tons or 28% in the second. “In 2021 there were 58 and 42% or their respective 226,523 and 164,644 thousand tons. Brazil was the destination for 97% or 61,093 thousand tons of the January indications, 3% or 1.64 thousand tons were among the Uruguayan market with 1,448 thousand tons in small volume containers of 192 tons for international destinations via the Paraguay River, also in containers. Distribution in January 2021 was 68% or 264 thousand tons for Brazil, 24% or 94 thousand tons for the Paraguay River, 7% or 27 thousand tons for the Paraná River and 1% or 5 thousand tons for Uruguay per container”, he indicates.
