The Chinese province of Heilongjiang, the country's main soybean producer, plans to increase the area cultivated with the oilseed by 10 million mu (666,667 hectares) in 2022, the official Xinhua news agency reported on Sunday.
China's soybean production fell sharply last year as farmers decided to plant more corn as it was more profitable. The Ministry of Agriculture estimates that China's soybean production in the 2021/22 season will fall by 16.3% compared to 2020/21.

The ministry had estimated that 8.4 million hectares were cultivated with soybeans in 2021/22.
Last week, the country's agriculture minister told an annual rural work conference that China should stabilize grain production and expand production of soybeans and oilseeds.
