The Ministry of Regional Development will finance with R$ 10.1 million the Mato Grosso government's work plan to combat the fires that affect the Pantanal area in the south of the state, even in conservation units.
The release of resources was signed early yesterday afternoon (16) in Cuiabá, in a meeting between minister Rogério Marinho and the state governor, Mauro Mendes.

According to an investigation carried out by the Integrated Multiagency Operational Coordination Center (Ciman-MT), linked to the state government, some fires were caused with the purpose of burning deforested vegetation, including “to create a pasture area for cattle.” The drought worsened the spread of fires.
Alert from the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) includes almost the entire territory of the state in a “dangerous” situation due to the severity of the drought.
Emergency
The federal government approved the emergency decree in Mato Grosso, issued on Monday (14) by Mendes, due to the increase in areas affected by the fire. The recognition of the situation by the Union and the release of resources makes it possible to purchase equipment and hire services to combat fires and devastation.
Mauro Mendes said he will use the resources to buy biodegradable fire retardants, chemical compounds mixed with water, and allocate more planes to fight the fire directly.
“There are, in the parks, inaccessible places, which have no road, you can’t get to where the fire is,” said the governor when defending the use of planes that drop retardants in burning areas.
According to a video published by Rogério Marinho, on Twitter, the release of resources took place in “record” time and “the preparation of the work plan took less than 24 hours”.
Yesterday (15), the ministry allocated R$ 3.8 million to help fight forest fires in Mato Grosso do Sul.
The Armed Forces have been working to fight the flames in the Pantanal of Mato Grosso since August 5th. In Mato Grosso do Sul, the actions began on July 25th. More than 400 people, including military personnel, brigade members and civilians, work in both states.
