The Brazilian agricultural harvest reached a record production value of R$ 361 billion in 2019, an increase of 5.1% compared to the performance recorded in the previous year. The data comes from the Municipal Agricultural Production (PAM) 2019 survey, released today by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
“The good results achieved in the last harvests, combined with the compensating prices of the main commodities, due to the high demand on the international market and the favorable exchange rate, contributed to the expansion of the planted areas of soybeans, corn and cotton, in addition to greater investments in agricultural crops”, explained the IBGE, in a note. “Added to this, positive climatic factors, mainly in the 2nd harvest, taken to the field, largely during the ideal sowing period, contributed to the good development of the grains”, added the institute, which noted: “The results achieved could have been even better, if it weren't for the record of a drop in yield of crops such as soybeans, beans and corn 1st harvest in regions of the States of Paraná, São Paulo and Mato Grosso do Sul, due to dry periods between the months of December and January.”
Soybean production totaled R$ 125.6 billion in 2019, remaining in first place in the ranking of the value of national agricultural production, despite the decrease of 1.8% in relation to 2018 performance.
