Brazil suspends imports of pork products from Germany after ASF case

According to a note from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA), this Monday (14) “the import of fresh and poorly processed pork from Germany” was suspended. According to the statement, “the decision was motivated by the record of a case of African swine fever in a dead wild boar” in the European country.

Germany reported the case of African Swine Fever last Thursday (10), and since then South Korea, Japan, China, Argentina and Brazil have suspended purchases of pork products. The European Union is the world's main exporter of the protein, and Germany is among the main countries in the bloc to sell the protein.

In the statement made to the German authorities, Mapa requests detailed information from that country's health authorities about the biosafety measures adopted by German industrial plants.
