According to Russian arrangements, a formal meeting of BRICS Foreign Ministers will be held in early September, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said on Friday.
According to Xinhua news agency, Wang said that as the current international situation is complicated, China hopes to exchange views with other parties at this meeting on prominent challenges facing the international community and prepare for the leaders' summit.
Noting that the BRICS economic and trade ministers' meeting was held on Thursday, Wang said that the ministers of the five countries agreed that despite facing the serious situation of increasing downside risks to the world economy, the BRICS countries should persist in cooperation, overcome difficulties, strengthen cooperation in supply and value chains, jointly safeguard the multilateral trading system, avoid unilateralism and protectionist measures, support necessary reforms of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and protect rights and interests legitimate rights of developing members.
The BRICS countries are emerging markets and major developing countries with global influence, the spokesperson pointed out. Under the current situation, the five countries, maintaining the BRICS spirit of openness, inclusiveness and win-win cooperation and increasing unity and cooperation in trade, will not only boost economic recovery in their respective country, but also help ensure the operation secure and stable global industrial and supply chains, and bring the global economy out of the shadows as soon as possible.
