According to a report released by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), between May 28 and June 18, 2020, 11 new outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HAI) were reported in commercial poultry in Taipei, India and Hungary. The total number of ongoing HPAI outbreaks in the world is 69. They are distributed as follows: Africa (19), America (1) and Asia (49).
During the same period, ten new outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) were reported in wild birds in India. The total number of ongoing HPAI outbreaks in these bird populations is 26. They are distributed as follows: Africa (11) and Asia (15).
During the period, a total of 210,185 animals were reported lost in Asia and Europe in ongoing and new outbreaks, compared to 288,153 losses reported in the previous report.
In Africa, no new outbreaks were reported in commercial or wild birds during the period. Ongoing outbreaks are still present in South Africa and Nigeria in both poultry (H5N6 and H5N8) and wild birds (H5N8).
No new cases were reported on the American continent either, but an ongoing outbreak is still present in the United States in poultry (H7N3) since April 2020.
In Asia, Taipei reported 1 new outbreak (H5N5) in domestic birds, India 4 new outbreaks in domestic birds (H5N1) and 10 new outbreaks in wild birds (H5N1). Ongoing outbreaks are still present in Afghanistan, China, Taipei, India, Korea, Philippines and Vietnam in poultry (subtypes H5, H5N1, H5N5, H5N6 and H7N9) and Afghanistan, China and India in wild birds (H5, H5N1, H5N6 and H7N9). In Europe, Hungary recorded 6 new outbreaks in poultry (H5N8).
