In March, the IPPA/Cepea (Producer Price Index for Agricultural Product Groups) had a significant increase of 6.5% compared to February, in nominal terms. The main impetus for this result came from grains (IPPA-Grãos/Cepea) and livestock (IPPA-Pecuária/Cepea), which have a high weight in the general index and registered respective monthly increases of 15% and 3.1%. In the month, the IPPA-Grãos/Cepea was influenced by soybeans, corn and cotton.
The IPPA-Pecuária/Cepea, in turn, was influenced by cattle, pigs and eggs. As for IPPA-Hortifrutícolas/Cepea, it grew 8.3% compared to February and was influenced by bananas and tomatoes, as there was downward pressure on oranges. In the same comparison, IPA-OG-DI Industrial products, calculated and published by FGV, grew by 1.75%. Thus, from February to March, agricultural prices rose compared to industrial prices in the economy.
