The harvest of cereals, legumes and oilseeds is expected to close 2020 at 247 million tons, 2.3% above 2019 production, that is, 5.5 million tons more. The April estimate, from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), is also 0.8% higher than the forecast made by the March survey (1.9 million tons more).
The harvested area should be 64.5 million hectares, that is, 2% above the 2019 area and 0.2% above the March forecast.
Among the country's main grain crops, compared to 2019, increases of 6.7% are expected in soybean production (which should close the year at 121 million tons) and 3.5% in rice (10.6 million tons). Increases of 5.9% in sorghum production and 19.4% in wheat production are also estimated.
On the other hand, drops of 3.4% are expected in corn production (97.1 million tons) and 2% in herbaceous cotton (6.8 million tons). Beans should also fall (-1.9%).
Other products
In addition to grains, IBGE also makes estimates for other important products in the Brazilian agricultural matrix, such as sugar cane, which should close the year with production of 670.6 million tons (an increase of 0.5% compared to 2020 ) and coffee, which is expected to produce 3.46 million tons (an increase of 15.5%). Other products expected to increase are orange (4.4%) and grapes (0.4%).
On the other hand, drops are expected in the production of bananas (-3.8%), potatoes (-2.1%), cassava (-1.1%) and tomatoes (-4.8%).
