Foreign sales of Brazilian agriculture grew by 17.5% on the daily average in the first four months of the year, compared to the same period of the previous year, according to data released this Monday (04) by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Map). Despite the new coronavirus pandemic, the work to open the market for Brazilian agricultural products continues to bring good results for the country. There was an increase in exports to Asia, particularly China. The share of agriculture in total exports increased from 18.7% in 2019 to 22.9% in 2020.
The products that increased in the period were: soybeans (+ 29.9%, from US$ 8,968.3 million to US$ 11,653.7 million), raw cotton (+ 69.5%, from US$ 659.2 million to US$ 1,117.6 million), raw wood (+28.9%, from US$ 26.1 million to US$ 33.6 million), natural honey (+17.2%, from US$ 18.4 million to US$ 21.6 million), spices ( + 3.2%, from US$ 85.7 million to US$ 88.5 million).
Some agribusiness products broke historical monthly export records in volume in April, such as soybeans, with 16.3 million tons; soybean meal, with 1.7 million tons; fresh, chilled or frozen beef, with 116 thousand tons; pork, with 63 thousand tons and raw cotton, with 91 thousand tons. On the other hand, there were drops: wheat, rye and unground corn, except sweet corn, unroasted coffee, live animals, fruits and nuts.
Asia
Brazilian exports (from all sectors) to Asia rose 15.5% in the first four months of the year, compared to the same period in 2020. The Asian market now represents 47.2% of our total exports. Despite the impact of the pandemic on the Chinese economy, Brazilian exports to China grew by 11.3% in the period, with emphasis on soybeans (+28.5%), fresh, chilled or frozen beef (+85.9%), beef fresh, chilled or frozen pork (+153.5%) and raw cotton (+79.%).
Figures for the first four months show that, in dollars, China bought triple what was imported by the United States from Brazil and double what was demanded by the European Union.
