Agricultural production in Brazil will continue to occur normally amid measures to combat coronavirus (COVID-19), according to sector entities and the Minister of Agriculture, Tereza Cristina, in a report published on G1.
As well as hospitals, health centers and other essential services, food production will also continue to be carried out so that supply throughout the country is guaranteed.
According to the CNA – Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock of Brazil, the decision is essential so that there is no shortage of food available to the population and so that “people's health is not affected”.
The Ministry of Agriculture also spoke out asking that all workers in the field, transport and logistics and processing industries adopt the necessary hygiene measures. In a video, minister Teresa Cristina stated that the department is taking all inspection and surveillance measures to maintain the food supply.
“Brazil, in addition to being a major producer, is currently experiencing the largest harvest in its history. The Ministry of Agriculture has been monitoring all links in the production chain on a daily basis so that the flow of goods is not interrupted”, highlighted the minister.
Teresa also emphasized the commitment of all Brazilian agribusiness professionals, who work to ensure that the entire Brazilian population is not left without access to food and to ensure that this important sector of the economy remains booming.
