Live pig prices are reacting this week in most regions monitored by Cepea, after having registered drops between the end of January and the beginning of February. According to Cepea employees, in addition to the increase in domestic consumption due to the receipt of salaries, external demanders have also increased purchases of Brazilian protein, reinforcing the rise in prices.
Between February 5th and 12th, the biggest increase, of 6.4%, was recorded in Southwest Paraná, where the price of live pigs averaged R$ 5.35/kg this Wednesday, 12th. In the SP-5 region ( Bragança Paulista, Campinas, Piracicaba, São Paulo and Sorocaba), the average value of the animal on day 12 was R$ 5.31/kg, an increase of 4.5% in seven days.
In the markets of Minas Gerais and Goiás, there was stability in prices. With live animal prices rising in most markets monitored by Cepea, the pork market also reacted. At the wholesale level in Greater São Paulo, special pork carcasses registered an increase in value of 6.1% between February 5th and 12th, at R$ 8.00/kg on Wednesday, 12th.
