Minister Tereza Cristina (Agriculture, Livestock and Supply) participated this Tuesday (3) in the opening of the meeting of the Beef Production Chain Sector Chamber.
The minister highlighted that the sector is going through a moment of transition, which is being monitored by Mapa, and that the market is already signaling a reduction in the price of beef. Tereza Cristina highlighted that the price of meat, high due to several factors, should soon return to normal for the consumer.
“I want to reassure all of you [consumers]. We had a temporary situation of drought, lack of pasture and opening of markets, but now the price of meat should stabilize. The Ministry of Agriculture has no influence, this is the market. We are closely monitoring what is happening,” he said.
The minister assured that there is no risk of a lack of animal protein in the country, as only 25% of production is destined for export.
“I can guarantee you there will be no shortage of protein, beef, poultry and pork. Let's wait for that moment. You can be sure that we will continue to have the best product on our tables, in our supermarkets. And we can still send it to the rest of the world”, he stated.
At the sectoral chamber meeting, Tereza Cristina also said that the sector has great opportunities to expand business. “A huge opportunity to become even bigger. This will depend a lot on our dialogues, on the transversality between everyone who makes up this Chamber so that we can provide security to consumers”.
Installed since 2003, the sectoral chamber is made up of members from 42 institutions. Among the topics of today's meeting are inspection of products of animal origin by public consortia, veterinary medicines and the collegiate's calendar for 2020.
