China's Environment Ministry has simplified environmental registration requirements for the pig farming industry and eased the ban on 14,000 pig farming areas, an official said on Tuesday.
Liu Zhiquan, director of environmental impact assessment at the ministry, also said that environmental protection should not be used as an excuse to curb pig farming.
The comments came as the world's top pork consumer struggles to increase pig production after a serious African swine fever disease reduced its pig herd by at least 40%.
