Corn prices should be sustained in 2020, says CEPEA

The 2019/20 harvest should begin with restricted corn availability, in a scenario of increasing domestic consumption. The new summer harvest should be in line with that recorded in 2019, which should not significantly alter domestic availability in the first half of the year.

Thus, according to Cepea researchers, there are factors that support prices in the short term, which tends to encourage the sowing of crops in the second harvest and, consequently, increase supply in the second half of the year. The strong upward movement in domestic prices in the last quarter of 2019 encouraged producers to increase the area sown with first-crop corn.

Information from Cepea's Cost Team indicates that there has been an improvement in exchange relationships between products and inputs in the main regions monitored.
