SRB 100 years: Minister Tereza Cristina highlights the sustainability of Brazilian agribusiness

The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa), Tereza Cristina, praised Brazilian agribusiness in a speech at the celebration of 100 years of the Brazilian Rural Society, held on Monday night (30) in the capital of São Paulo. According to the minister, the Brazilian sector is the most sustainable in the world, reaches the plates of one billion people per day and has room for further growth.

“The ministers from the BRICS [group of countries composed of Brazil, China, South Africa, Russia and India] came here in Brazil in the last few days and saw what agribusiness really is, and not what they say, what they paint about agribusiness out there, and that's why today we are having to explain the inexplicable to the world. We have the most sustainable agribusiness in the world, but there is a problem that we don't do it the way we do”, he said at the event held at the São Paulo Jockey Club headquarters.

The minister added that, every day, agribusiness embarks on more technology, and “we need to show this here, in our society, and also to the world”.

According to Tereza Cristina, the Brazilian sector has room to grow and should be more daring. “Brazilian agribusiness was still very timid, and we have great opportunities, we have land extension, we have sustainable production, our productivity is growing more and more, we have technical competence, in short, we now need to be more daring, we need to understand what we have to deliver to the global consumer. We have to know what they want from us.”
