The Agricultural Climate Risk Zoning (Zarc) for herbaceous cotton for the 2019/2020 harvest was updated for the Federal District and 26 states, except Amazonas. The ordinances were published in the Official Gazette of the Union this Friday (16).
The new study presents some news for this culture. From now on, the crop zoning will be presented in three risk levels, that is, it will be possible to identify the sowing risk, per ten days (ten days), for the risks of 20%, 30% and 40%. Until then, zoning included sowing periods only for the 20% risk.
According to the Risk Management Department of the Agricultural Policy Secretariat of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, a better risk assessment will be possible by financial agents and insurance companies, and will allow the producer to identify the risk to which they will be exposed. depend on the sowing date. To obtain crop insurance, the producer must comply with agricultural zoning guidelines.
In this methodology, a planting calendar was created for each municipality, correlated to the cultivar cycle and the type of soil, according to its water retention capacity, using data from historical series with an average of 20 years of daily records at available meteorological stations.
What is Zarc for?
Zoning aims to reduce risks related to climate problems and allows producers to identify the best time to plant, taking into account the region of the country, the culture and different types of soil.
The system considers elements that directly influence the development of agricultural production such as temperature, rainfall, relative air humidity, occurrence of frost, water available in the soil, water demand of crops and geographic elements (altitude, latitude and longitude).
Farmers are obliged to follow Zarc's instructions to contract resources from rural credit, family farming and rural insurance.
Zoning is constantly updated. New studies are being developed by Embrapa and will be published for the crops of banana, cocoa, cassava, cashew, corn/brachiaria, corn and beans for the Northeast Region and a review of wheat in the South Region. Important crops from the North and Northeast regions will also be evaluated.
