The global meat price index rose for the sixth consecutive month, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). In this sense, CarneTec Brasil indicated that the increase was 0.6% in July, compared to June, and was 10% above that recorded in January this year and, despite the increase, the index is 17% below its peak recorded in August 2014 .
“Beef prices increased in July, driven by strong demand from Asia in a scenario of reduced supply from Oceania. Pork prices fell slightly after four months of continuous increases, reflecting greater supply from Brazil and the United States”, indicated the specialized portal CarneTec Brasil.
Furthermore, it is possible to say that poultry meat prices remain firm at the levels observed in June, with stable but still high demands in most markets. “Robust beef import demand across Asia has also contributed to further increases in beef prices,” FAO said in its latest statement released to the world.
“Meat is one of the five commodity groups considered by the FAO to calculate its global food price index, which fell by 1.1% in July, compared to June, but increased by 2.3% compared to July last year. Drops in the prices of cereals, dairy products and sugar more than offset the increases observed in the prices of meat and oils, resulting in a drop in the global food index in July”, concluded CaneTec in a text published on its official website.
